Every month Spiritual News will feature a medium’s story – there are as many different stories as there are mediums! This month, Pat Peacock tells us hers…
I have been a medium for over 30 years and started my development at Sutton Spiritualist Church. I sat in a Development Circle for some while and was then invited to join Ivy Scott’s Circle in Streatham. Ivy Scott was a wonderful medium and taught many people in her Development Circle. The last time I saw her working on the platform was at Sutton Church when she was 96 and she was as energetic and sparkly, giving excellent proof of survival, as I had ever seen her. A really lovely lady.
I went to ‘Fledgling Evenings’ at Wimbledon Spiritualist Church led by Bob and Jean Bassett, and from there I began working in Churches in the South London and Surrey areas. For many years, with my husband and a friend, we ran a group at Wallington and Carshalton Spiritualist Church aka Hackbridge. This was not a traditional Development Circle as we often had more than 20 people each week. The evenings varied from clairvoyant evenings, learning about healing, discussions, experimental mediumship, demonstrations given by a number of mediums, and always included a meditation and absent healing.
I am now President of Chichester Christian Spiritualist Church and run a weekly Development Circle preparing people to develop their abilities so that they are able to take Services.
I run seminars in my own home on a Friday and Saturday monthly. Both days are identical and there is a morning and afternoon workshop with a ploughman’s lunch. These have been running for over four years. They are always very lively days with much laughter. Many of the people come every month and friendships have been made where people keep in touch from one seminar to the next. People come from a wide area including Chichester, Portsmouth, Hayling Island, Bognor, Rustington, Sutton and Dorking. The subjects for the workshops are very varied with everyone participating.
I give private readings in my home and will also travel to give group readings. I take Services and conduct weddings and funerals.
I have written a book, ‘My Search for Truth’, and this is available from my website together with a booklet, ‘A Guide to Mediumship’. The purpose of writing this book was to show my background and how I began to search for the purpose of life; how I found Spiritualism, the difference it has made to my life and my beliefs now, plus some helpful ideas for readers to think on and help them to find their own pathways for life.
For many years I have also been interested in genealogy and researching family trees. I have two adopted children and about 18 years ago began researching for birth families on behalf of adopted children. Finding the birth parents of both my adopted children started this side of my genealogy work. During these years I have reunited many families in many different countries and find this work very rewarding. When I first began this research I had to travel to Public Record Offices, but nowadays it is possible to do most of the work via the internet. I have heard many heart-rending stories as well as many very happy reunions.
