The religion of Spiritualism encompasses that divine, creative force we call God, the wonder of the spirit world and the glory of eternal life. Our ‘Truth’ is loving and supportive and helps us cope with the rigours of a physical and material existence. Our philosophy teaches there is no judgement within the realm of spirit and, so important is it we have opportunities for the development of our spiritual understanding, that we operate under the natural laws of ‘free will’and ‘personal responsibility’.
Then, we go and make it so small!
Week after week, around the country, we hear our mediums and speakers drag it down to the mundane. They prattle on about their personal lives. They tell us how bad we are, how awful mankind is, how tough is life and how we should be living. They continue that we have to love everyone; have no ego; be of service, interspersed with various other platitudes and endless clichés.
They blithely state the spirit world test us to see how we will cope; that here is the equivalent of an infant school so we have to be taught lessons we must learn, or such things as “They broke your leg because you had to slow down”!
The real humdinger is we are only given in life what we can cope with – so what does not kill you makes you strong. Could we be any more sanctimonious? Try telling that to a starving mother who is holding her dead child.
As far as I am concerned the duty of any religion is to uplift, especially so if you are under the banner of Spiritual-ism.
Surely it would be beneficial to sermonise the joys of being a ‘forever’ spirit; that we have earned the right to be here to experience being physical and that it is ok to accept we are doing the best we can. To be told that there is more to us and that the ‘more’ is creative and good and powerful and important.
There is no greater or lesser - just Spirit. We are perfect and ever changing.
We are in the spirit world now, always have been and always will be. We did not ‘come’ from the spirit world to earth and so, when we die, we will not go ‘back’, for we have never left. When we die, this physical life will have enhanced our being because our life and experiences will have expanded our understanding. We will be somewhere ‘more’ and it will be perfect for us and created by intelligence.
We are part of One Stupendous Whole so why think small when you can be bold.
If you are speaking for me, and representing my religion, please ignite, enliven and empower. Why talk about things so base? Why make God so petty?
Come on, all those lucky enough to be heard – promote grand, expound large, create new horizons and views. Leave everyone uplifted and glad they came. Most of all - speak up for Spirit
