SWA Hands In Petition To Number 10
On Friday 18th April at 2 pm a deputation from the Spiritual Workers Association will hand in a petition signed by thousands of spiritual workers to the Prime Minister’s famous black front door at Number 10 Downing Street.
People concerned at the prospect of this covert attack on genuine mediums by the move to repeal the protective Fraudulent Mediums Act 1951 are still signing petition forms downloaded from the SWA website. There could be as many as 10,000 signatures by the time the petition is delivered.
While only six representatives of the SWA are allowed through the gates between Whitehall and Downing Street, as many as want to turn up in support to make our presence felt from without, will be very welcome.
There are at the moment no plans for an ‘after petition’ party, but check the SWA website for an update on that, and for more up to the minute news on the progress of the campaign.

Is it better that Spiritualism should grow as it is growing, as an influence rather than as a formally organised faith?
Spiritualism is both a growing influence and does well to be organised.
Spiritualism is not a faith. Faith requires a leap in the dark, an unquestioning acceptance of whatever another may say to you. This is not Spiritualism in any way, shape or form. Spiritualism will continue to influence the events in the world by shedding light and knowledge where there is darkness and ignorance at this present time. In the affairs of the human race there can be no progress without organisation of thought, ideas and plans for action. It is not enough to sit and ponder on the world’s ills and to expect those resident in the spirit realms and that which you call God, the Great Spirit, to effect the changes for the better that you may seek as a Spiritualist. It is better to think of something to do, some action to take, together with others with similar intent, in order to make the best impact on a situation which otherwise will just stay a-mouldering, just like dear John Brown’s body. In unity there is strength and the energy to accomplish much that is good and that will bring enlightenment to the whole of the human race. As you know, it is much needed in these times of continuing conflict and disagreement between the many factions that make up this world of yours in which you presently reside. Of course those in the realms of light will continue to give the proverbial power to your elbow as you, each and every one, pursue your own path but in good company. We look forward with you to the results of your labours. May the Great Spirit bless all of you and all of that which you do.
How Do They Do That?
Maurice Barbanell was born on the 3rd May 1902. The son of Jewish immigrants, his father an atheist and his mother religiously observant, he grew up used to philosophical debate albeit often in a language other than English. His own grasp of English as a native born English speaker, was exceptional and he became a journalist. As a very young man he also became a Spiritualist and trance medium for the revered guide, Silver Birch.
In May 1932 he launched the first issue of Psychic News to promote the Spiritualist philosophy and spiritual way of life. It was also to contain a regular message from Spirit, from Silver Birch and other guides such as famous medium Estelle Roberts’ Red Cloud.
In May 2000 a message from another group’s spokesperson was printed in Psychic News.
In May 2008 it seems to have been prophetic - and is now printed in the first issue of Spiritual News…
